| are opened when the security system is armed. and it's armed when the car is locked and not running. the hood switch bracket often gets bent, or the switch it's self is contorted to a point that it will slip off the place it makes contact with the hood. making it go off. usually on extreme temperature days. 99% of the time, to deactivate it, all you need to do is unlock the drierside door with the key. you get in, lock the door, crank it up, drive and turn it off, doors still locked, it wont arm.
but if you get in, lock the door, shut it, and sit there, then pull the handle after it arms, it will go off. you will need to get out, and use your key in the door and unlock it and it will shut off. that's to keep from someone from breaking the glass and opening it fromthe inside (door, hatch, hood). there is no shock sensor or anything like that. 94+ had fobs, and i know nothing about those. i would guess those would work just like the 89-93s but you can disarm it with the fob and the key in the driverside door.
